Anker Stuy – the old new kid on the block

While Anker Stuy may be a new name for some, this timber coating specialist has a long history in high quality manufacturing, which dates back to 1898.

At the end of World War II, Adriaan Stuy opened as a paint wholesaler in the north of the Netherlands under the name 'Stuy Paints', then in 1960, he acquired a small paint factory called 'Anker Paints', which was established at the end of the 19th century. In 1970, the names combined to form 'Anker Stuy Paints'.

The company continues to be family-run, but has seen many advances in terms of product offerings and technology, including the revolutionary change towards water-borne coatings in the 1990s, which was managed by the second generation of the Stuy family, John and Rob. Rob Stuy remains a company Director along with his nephews, Armand and Emile Stuy.

In 2019, Anker Stuy opened a UK facility in Peterborough, bringing high quality products and coating solutions to the UK joinery industry. Among their product portfolio is the Hydrolux range of products. These coatings are born from the drive to manufacture joinery more quickly and use a unique blend of various polymer resins known as TRI-CRYL® technology; this offers the optimum blend of early water resistance, wet adhesion and fast drying without compromising on excellent levelling and flow, which affords a beautiful smooth surface.

Anker Stuy’s coatings are formulated to meet the severe weather conditions of the wettest climates in Europe as well as the Netherlands' strict KOMO certification requirements; this ensures that Anker Stuy is excellently placed to understand and meet the needs of UK joinery manufacturers. Furthermore, the extensive experience of the sales and technical team, headed by General Manager Dave Christie, offers an awareness of the struggles faced by some joinery companies. In this sense, the personal knowledge and expertise means they're excellently positioned to help customers, both large and small, to improve their processes in order to achieve the best possible results.

With a dedicated manufacturing plant and focus on its customer base, despite the extremely challenging times experienced with raw material and product shortages, in the main, Anker Stuy managed to keep supplies going, which the company is very proud to report.

Despite the difficulties brought by the last two years, out of adversity comes strength, and Anger Stuy is looking forward to new challenges in this constantly evolving market, which sees the emergence of new innovations against a backdrop of traditional methods and time-served knowledge.
