Sturrock’s Joinery – one of Scotland's oldest family businesses – celebrates 150 year anniversary

Specialist timber manufacturer, Alexander Sturrock – Sturrock’s Joinery – is celebrating 150 years in business.

The Angus-based firm has been in the ownership of the Sturrock family for six generations since its inception in 1872 and has grown to become the leader in its market. The company specialises principally in the production of replacement timber components for historic properties.

With an expansive purpose-built production facility in Whigstreet - South of Forfar - the company employs 24 people and undertakes a mixture of conservation and heritage work. They are also, widely regarded to be, the longest established specialist manufacturer of timber sash and case windows in Scotland.

Alex Sturrock Jnr, Managing Director, and Sarah Sturrock, Financial Director, jointly commented: “This is a significant milestone in the company's history. Throughout the six generations, we've worked very hard for a long time, investing heavily in all areas of the business to become one of a select few who can do what we do. Not only do we have one of the best equipped workshops for a company of our size, but also a great team with immense knowledge and experience.”

They added: “We'd like to pay particular thanks to our parents for their dedication, hard work and investment in the business under their tenure; without which we wouldn't be where we are today.”

Sturrocks’ is renowned for its manufacture of the highest quality, sympathetically replicated timber windows and doors fitted in some of the most prestigious heritage and architecturally sensitive projects in the country. Their unique differentiation rests in an ability to produce bespoke assemblies to match historic or vernacular detailing when replacing timber windows or doors in buildings that are regularly of regional or national significance.

Being a first-choice partner to the professional architecture community and main contractors, Sturrocks’ draws on an unrivalled track record in this field and has been specified on a number of prestigious heritage projects throughout England.
